A Day Off Of School: A Winter Beach Day

The boys had a day off of school at the end of February and we wanted to make the most of it. We headed out with no real plans and as you may know those always end up being the best days.

Cambria Getaway

Kaleb and I hadn't had a night away from the kids, besides our hospital stay, in about two years. Needless to say it was much overdue and we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend beachside relaxing, eating, and cuddling. It was heavenly and we smile every time we reminisce over it.

We stayed at the Cambria Beach Lodge with our tiny third wheel Porter. He was a dream, really. He slept twelve hours a night, napped under an umbrella as we laid out in the sun, and it was fun for us to have time with just him. I know I get to bond with him a lot since he's dependent on me but Kaleb doesn't get that as much since he's flocked for the four older ones every time he sets foot in the door. We didn't mind his sweet little company one bit.

If anyone deserves a vacation, it's this guy! I don't think he had been this relaxed in at least a couple of years. He's been working so hard and it was so fun to see him truly relax and refresh. This was hands down our favorite spot at the hotel.

We spent most of Saturday laying up on the deck in the sun. We brought a bucket of ice filled with soda, an umbrella to shade the babe, and books to read in between napping and cuddling. This might sound pretty normal to most people but to us after having five kids it was heaven! We hardly ever get to relax so this was a treat.

We spent our last night at a fancy seaside restaurant. We got steak, wine, and dessert while the sun set. We got to watch whales jumping and popping up out of the water as we ate. It was such a fun memory.

We've got lots of memories stored up to make us smile and remind us of the refreshment we were blessed with. Until next time!

Harper's New Room

Harper got a little upgrade for her bedroom and couldn't be more excited for a bed full of mermaids to sleep in every night! I've gotten quite a few questions on where we found some things so I thought I'd put together a post and share some of the details to make it a little easier!

Since Porter was born he has been sleeping in a pac n play in our room. Now that he's getting bigger he needed his own crib. We decided to upgrade Harper to a twin bed to convert her toddler bed back into a crib to give to Porter. Sawyer moved into the boys room and Porter now sleeps in the same room as Harper which she loves! Her portion of the room is complete! I just need to do something with Porter's corner above his bed but that'll have to be done later. I'll post all of the details below!

A lot of the wall decor I've had for a little over two years now but I'll link what I can! The metal laundry basket, "always kiss me goodnight' sign, set of three gold mirrors, and coat hooks were all bought from either Target or TJ Maxx on clearance and the unicorn and donut signs were both Target dollar spot finds. We've had the paper lanterns hanging in there since we moved in a couple of years ago but you can find similar ones HERE. I also bought her off white shag rug a couple of years ago so I can't directly link it but Wayfair.com has the best affordable rug options! I've bought several rugs from them and haven't been disappointed yet!

After school ice cream.

This kid turned SEVEN!

More baby kisses.

Sawy got up close to one of his favorite things, tractors.

Weekly bank lollipops and trips to Target.

Celebrating eight weeks of this kid joining our family.

I'm so excited to see what memories the month of February bring for our family! We have Valentine's Day, Carter's turning SIX at the end of the month, and there are many adventures and family days to be had.

Eight Weeks of Porter Cuddles

January 31, 2017

Porter Benjamin

I can't believe how quickly the last eight weeks have flown by. At the same time I can't remember life without him as a part of our family. He has fit in so perfectly and the four older babes absolutely adore him. He will never be short on kisses, cuddles, or love. He sleeps 6-7 hours at night with nights where he wakes up every 2-3 hours sprinkled in there. He loves to be cuddled but he's also so good at sleeping in his crib. He's wearing size 0-3 months now, I actulally just put away all of his newborn clothes and I'd be lying if I said that it didn't make me really sad. He's a Mama's boy at the moment and is starting to respond to voices he recognizes. He knows Mama, Daddy, and all of his siblings and gives really big smiles when we talk to him. He hates his car seat but has started to get better at not crying the entire time he's in it. He's working on "talking", you can tell he wants to and occasionally will get a cute little coo noise out but he hasn't quite mastered it just yet. I love seeing his little personality come out as he's staying awake longer and becoming more alert but I'm also sad that he's growing so fast. I want to bottle up every second of his tiny-ness!

Oliver's "Special Day"

January 25, 2017

We have a tradition in our house that every year on each of the kids birthdays they get a "special day" with just Mama. It's such a fun way to connect with each one individually and make some really sweet memories! The last couple of months have been especially crazy so we finally got to squeeze in Oliver's day a week late.

His first request was breakfast at Starbucks so that "You can get coffee, Mama." The boy knows the way to his Mama's heart that is for sure! After breakfast we headed to Target so he could pick out a few little things. We had taken him to Target on his actual birthday and let him get a toy but Target is part of our tradition so of course we had to make it happen.

Next up, I surprised him with a trip to The Children's Museum. We had never been before and I knew it was something he would love! It was so fun to watch him learn and explore.

Throughout the day he would point out different things that he thought each of his siblings would love if they were there with us. He even dressed up in this firefighting costume just to take a picture to show Sawyer when we got home. He has the sweetest most thoughtful little heart especially when it comes to his siblings!

One of his favorite areas of the museum was this water table that they have outside. He set up all of these dinosaurs and trees and probably could have stayed there all day to play. He was so proud of his work.

After a couple of hours at the museum and Oliver almost becoming an alligator's lunch we decided to grab some lunch of our own.

It was so fun to walk all over downtown together. We stopped over this bridge to watch the creek as it was flowing pretty quickly after all of the rain we recently got. The last time we were up there it had hardly any water in it and it definitely wasn't flowing much at all so he thought that was pretty cool. He got this pirate telescope at the museum as a souvenir and I don't think he put it down once for the rest of the day.

We raided the candy shop...before lunch...cause we could. It only took him about twenty minutes to pick out what he wanted but he ended up finding the best gummy worms we've ever tasted so clearly he was winning.

Little Porter tagged along for the day as our third wheel. Oliver didn't mind at all, he's pretty obsessed with his tiniest brother, but it definitely slowed us down quite a bit since he has to eat every two hours. He even had the biggest poopy blow out I've ever witnessed as we got back in the car to leave for our much anticipated trip to the beach.

Oliver was so excited to use his telescope at the beach because "the beach is the perfect place for a pirate telescope!". I felt so bad because we got there late than we wanted to and it was really cold and windy so we couldn't stay long at all because Porter didn't have any clothes since the spare outfit I had in my bag was too small for him. His swaddle blanket just wasn't enough for the California winter chill.

We stopped at the farmer's market they had set up on the walk back to the car to get kettle corn and roasted corn on a stick so I think that made up for it a little bit anyway.
